Bio

Jonathan A. Ramirez, also known as “Fingatipps”,is a multimedia artist based in Norfolk, Virginia and celebrated for vibrant explorations of color and light through a unique blend of photography, digital design, and innovative engineering elements. His work invites viewers to engage with provocative subject matters, challenging perceptions of beauty, technology, and the human experience.

Rooted in the diverse urban landscapes of the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, Jonathan’s early fascination with color and light blossomed into a passion for the intersection of art and technology.  He attended Granby High School and earned his bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Old Dominion University 2004.  His love for art started early with his talented mother, the late Frances Hanbury-MacNeill, who was an artist herself, teacher, and activist who is also credited help begin the Head Start program.  As a youth, Jonathan would tag along with his talented mother as she made and taught art.  His interest in becoming an artist was born from that time with his mother as well as through his love and reverence for Hip Hop culture.  As a disc jockey also known as “Fingatipps”, he also found a group, E.R. camp, that has been teaching the elements of Hip Hop to the youth since 2001.

Jonathan integrates traditional mediums such as epoxy and metalwork into his art, creating stunning installations that merge three-dimensional forms with his signature vibrant aesthetics. By combining materials like metals with translucent epoxy resins, he constructs immersive pieces that play with light, reflection, and color theory inviting viewers to explore the relationship between physicality and perception.

Jonathan’s art often begins with striking photographic captures of urban environments, nature, or everyday objects, which he then transforms through advanced digital techniques.   He is also an accomplished and published photographer and video creator who often collaborates with other artists and organizations.  His community work with Teens With a Purpose has helped spawn programs for underprivileged youth as well as fund and create community art installations.  Recent installations, like "Playa Periaktos," create a fusion of technology and art to push forward a futuristic vision.  His work, characterized by dynamic interactions of light and material, has been showcased in exhibitions across the United States, including Miami, New York, and Nevada.
